The Pilgrim’s Credential is much more than a simple paper booklet: it is the document that certifies your passage through the different stages of the Camino de Santiago and identifies you as a pilgrim. Each stamp it contains represents a part of your experience, a souvenir and proof of the journey you have made, whether on foot, on horseback or by bicycle.
This document is presented at the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago to obtain the Compostela, the official certificate that certifies having completed the Camino.
The credential is stamped with the stamps (also called “cuños”) that you will find along the route: in hostels, parishes, bars, town halls, stores, churches or even in some emblematic points of the Camino.
Each stamp includes the date and place, creating a visual journey of your trip to Santiago de Compostela. It is a symbol of authenticity and, at the same time, an indelible memory of the experience.
A passport for pilgrims?
— Specific requirements for cyclists.
For pilgrims who do the Camino by bicycle, the regulations establish a minimum distance of 200 kilometers to obtain the Compostela (in the case of walkers, it is 100 km).
Within the last 200 kilometers, it is essential to stamp at least twice a day, preferably twice a day:
- One at the beginning of the day (for example, at the lodging or departure village).
- Another at the end of the stage (at the hostel, parish or place of night rest).
In this way, your daily pace is correctly certified and it is guaranteed that the route has been completed entirely on the bicycle, complying with the criteria of the Camino.
Where to get the credential?
* If you rent one of our bicigrino bikes, the credential will be included in the pack that comes with the bike.
You can get the credential in pilgrim offices, pilgrim associations, parishes or directly when booking your trip with Bicigrino, where we include it along with the route kit and all the practical information.
In addition, we always recommend carrying it in a waterproof envelope or cover, as during the stages it can get wet or dirty easily.

💛 A souvenir for life
Beyond its administrative value, the credential becomes a travel diary full of history and emotions. Each stamp is an encounter, a smile, a pause along the way. When you arrive in Santiago, when you present your credential to receive the Compostela, you will feel that each page holds a little piece of your adventure.
👉 Bicigrino tip:
Keep your credential with affection once you have finished the Camino. It’s an authentic testimony of your effort and a source of inspiration for future trips… who knows if you’ll soon be pedaling to Santiago again!
