For centuries, Albergaria-a-Velha was a crossing point and an obligatory stop for all those who travelled along the country’s main Estrada Real (Royal Road) between Lisbon and Porto. First with the original inn founded by Queen Teresa in 1117, then with various lodging houses, then with the hotels and guesthouses of the early 20th century, and today’s local accommodations, hotels and guesthouses of varying size and quality, Albergaria-a-Velha has always been, thanks to its location, a privileged reference point in terms of accommodation. One of these establishments, the notable Estalagem dos Padres, founded in 1818 and held by the same family for some 200 years, became famous because many guests stayed there, many of them distinguished. Its name, which has endured over the centuries, comes from the fact that on three occasions priests were its owners: first two brothers, then a nephew of theirs, and then the latter’s nephew. This sequence of clergymen owning the inn over decades is the origin of its name. The history of this establishment was written in old handwritten notes, but also in travel literature, both national and foreign, in biographies and memoirs of various public figures, among other sources. After the inn closed, this building had several other occupations and uses, and it is now about to become an accommodation unit.

The accommodation has a maximum capacity of 18 people and offers 7 suites and 2 family rooms. We have a ground-floor suite for people with reduced mobility.
