Nearby

It is believed to be the ancient Roman settlement of “Autaris”. Where the current chapel of San Froilán stands there is a small cave where it is said the Saint withdrew as a hermit, having come from Lugo before being appointed bishop of León. Legend has it that the rabbits gnawed part of San Froilán’s prayer books, and as a consequence the mice disappeared from this area by the Saint’s curse. During the Civil War part of the church of San Juan Bautista burned down.
