This municipality is located in the central area of the province, in the outskirts of the city of León, just 5 km away. It lies right on the Camino de Santiago, in one of the main road hubs of the province, with links to the Campomanes motorway towards Asturias, the León-Astorga motorway towards Galicia and the León-Benavente dual carriageway towards Madrid.
The Sanctuary of the Virgin. In 1914, the Virgen del Camino obtained from Rome the declaration of patron saint of the León region. And on 7 June 1917, Pope Benedict XV authorised the canonical coronation of the image of the Virgen del Camino, thus beginning a new overflowing and sincere devotion that, as in the past, filled the Sanctuary and populated the esplanade during the pilgrimages, thus bringing back to the memory of the Christian people the name of the Mother as Our Lady of the Camino.
