Navarrete is a few kilometres from Logroño, and in its streets you can already feel the peace and tranquillity of a small town. In a quiet, relaxed atmosphere we can stroll through its cobbled streets and admire its well-kept and peculiar old town. A pottery town in ancient times, even today it keeps some workshops where we can admire that ancestral craft.
Today its old part is preserved and recovered, and the layout of a walled city can be seen. The wineries are built on the hillside. This arrangement means many houses jut out over arcades, giving it a characteristic image. Traditional architecture is based on the use of ashlar stone very well combined with brick, a very common material in this town of pottery tradition.
The Parish Church, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, deserves special mention. Inside, the main altarpiece is striking with its gilded Solomonic columns, making this work one of the best of the Riojan Baroque of the late 17th century.
