The Palencia town of Ledigos is located about 52 km northwest of the provincial capital. The urban centre rests in the meadow of the Templars’ stream, one of the many place names in the area recalling the presence in this part of Castile of an important settlement of the knight-monks of the Order of the Temple.
During the Middle Ages, the village of Ledigos stood out as a place offered to the Apostle Santiago by Doña Urraca. In fact, in the year 1028 the whole town was donated as property to the church of Santiago de Compostela. That is why the town has a church dedicated to the Apostle Santiago, which was renovated in the 17th century and is located on a hillock from where you can see the next village, Terradillos de los Templarios, where the locals still tell many legends about the mysterious order of warrior monks, since this town, which today belongs to the municipality of Ledigos, was jurisdictional territory of the Order of the Temple.
