You know your bike is waiting at the start. You know which village you sleep in tonight, and that there is a room with your name on it and a safe place for the bike. That peace of mind is not luck. It is decided months earlier, when you book.

For 2027 it matters more than usual, because it is a Holy Year. This article explains why, and how to have your bike and your beds secured before the end of 2026, with a lower price and no risk if your plans change.

Why 2027 is a special year

2027 is a Holy Year in Santiago, a Xacobeo. It happens only when 25 July, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday. The last one was 2021, extended into 2022 because of the pandemic. After 2027 the next is 2032.

On 31 December 2026 the Holy Door of the Cathedral is opened, and it stays open all year. Riding into Santiago and entering the Cathedral through that door is something you can only do in a Holy Year, and it is the reason many people choose 2027 for their Camino. We explain the tradition in detail in Xacobeo 2027: the Holy Year by bike.

More pilgrims, the same number of beds

The Camino is more popular every year. The Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago recorded 530,987 pilgrims in 2025, the highest figure in its history, and January to August 2026 is 6% above the same months of 2025 (figures published by santiago.es). A Holy Year adds to that.

The Camino itself is long and there is room on it for everyone. What does not grow is the number of beds in each village, or the number of bikes in a rental fleet. That is the only thing you need to plan for, and it has a simple answer: reserve early.

What we are already seeing for 2027

We are writing this in October 2026. For May and September 2027, the two months in highest demand every year, some bike sizes are already running low. And when customers ask us to organise their trip for those months, hotels in the last stages before Santiago, in towns like Sarria, Portomarín and Melide, are starting to show full dates.

It is logical. Those are small towns with a fixed number of rooms, and several routes come together there: the Camino Primitivo joins the Camino Francés at Melide and the Camino del Norte joins it at Arzúa. For a cyclist there is one more requirement: the accommodation has to keep the bikes safely overnight.

The difference between arriving and arriving with a booking

Anyone who has finished a stage tired, at six in the evening, and started asking from door to door for a room knows the feeling. It is the one kind of stress on the Camino that is completely avoidable.

With your stages planned and your rooms reserved, the end of the day looks different. You arrive, leave the bike in its place, plug it in if it is electric, shower, and go out for dinner. Nothing to solve. The same applies to the bike: booked now, the category and size you chose are yours for those dates, and you do not have to adapt your trip to whatever is left.

What you get by booking your bike in 2026

Until 31 December 2026, the code BICIGRINO2027 gives you three things for any rental to be ridden in 2027:

10% off the rate.

2026 prices, held for 2027. You pay this year’s rate for next year’s trip.

Your bike secured. The category and size you choose are reserved for your dates, while the whole 2027 calendar is still open.

In practice: a full-suspension e-bike for 10 days costs €635 at 2026 rates and €571.50 with the code. A gravel or mountain bike for 7 days goes from €345 to €310.50. The full scale is on our rates page.

Our fleet is close to 200 bikes, divided by category and size, and every bike is prepared in Santiago and shipped to the start of each trip. We cannot add more in the middle of the season, which is why the early bookings get the widest choice. You enter the code in the promo code field on the booking calendar. It works for bookings made in 2026.

And if your plans change?

Booking a year ahead should not worry you. This is the policy:

More than 30 days before your start date: you cancel and we refund 100%.

Between 30 and 15 days before: 50%.

Less than 15 days before: no refund.

If you book in November 2026 for a Camino in May 2027, you have until April to change your mind and get everything back. Booking early does not tie you down. And if something unexpected comes up later, talk to us. We are flexible people.

How to have your 2027 Camino sorted in four steps

Choose your dates. May and September are the months in highest demand, so if those are yours, book first. June has the longest days. July and August work well with an early start. March and April are green and calm.

Plan your stages. Our free Camino route planner lets you split the route into daily stages on the map, with distances, profiles and accommodation. Once you know where each day ends, you know which beds to book.

Book the bike. Choose category, size and start date on the booking calendar and enter BICIGRINO2027. If you have never rented a Camino bike, start with our guide to Camino de Santiago bike rental.

Book your beds, starting from the end. Reserve the last stages into Santiago first, then work backwards. Our directory of hotels on the Camino Francés lists places used to cyclists. Choose rates with free cancellation where you can.

An evening or two of planning now, and the trip is settled.

Groups: book earlier than everyone else

If you travel as a group, this section is the important one. A couple needs one room and almost any hotel can help them. A group of eight or ten needs four or five rooms in the same place on the same night, and most hotels on the Camino are small family businesses with a limited number of rooms. When part of them is already taken, the group no longer fits, even if the hotel is far from full.

The same happens with bikes. Ten riders means ten bikes in the right sizes for the same dates, and that is much easier to guarantee in autumn than in spring.

Our advice for groups is specific:

Fix the dates and the number of riders now, even if one or two names are still to be confirmed.

Book the bikes first with BICIGRINO2027, so every size is secured. Free cancellation up to 30 days before covers any change in the group.

Then reserve the accommodation, beginning with the stages closest to Santiago.

Ask us for help. Once the bikes are booked, we can propose the stages and suitable hotels for your group, or organise the whole trip for you.

Write to us now and not in spring. The earlier we start, the better the hotels we can still get for you, and the more likely it is that the whole group sleeps under the same roof.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2027 a Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago?

Yes. 2027 is a Holy Year because 25 July, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday. The Holy Door of the Cathedral of Santiago opens on 31 December 2026 and stays open throughout 2027. The next Holy Year is 2032.

Will it be hard to find accommodation on the Camino in 2027?

Not if you book ahead. Demand for beds will be higher than in a normal year, above all in May and September and on the last stages into Santiago, in towns such as Sarria, Portomarín and Melide. With your stages planned and your rooms reserved in advance, you ride knowing where you sleep each night.

When should I book a bike for the Camino in 2027?

As early as you can, and before 31 December 2026 if you want the BICIGRINO2027 conditions. Booking now means the category and size you want are reserved for your dates. For May and September 2027 some sizes are already running low in October 2026.

What does the BICIGRINO2027 code include?

A 10% discount, 2026 prices applied to your 2027 rental, and your bike reserved for your dates. It is valid for bookings made until 31 December 2026 for trips in 2027.

Can I cancel if I book now and cannot travel?

Yes. Cancellation is free, with a full refund, up to 30 days before your start date. Between 30 and 15 days before, 50% is refunded.

We are a group. How far ahead should we book for 2027?

As far ahead as possible. A group needs several rooms in the same hotel on the same night, and hotels on the Camino are small. Book the bikes first, so sizes are secured for everyone, and then the accommodation, starting with the last stages before Santiago.

Which months have the most availability in 2027?

June, July and August, and also March and April. May and September are the months in highest demand every year, so they are the ones to book first.

The short version

2027 is a year worth riding, and a year worth preparing. Book in October, November or December 2026 and you start your Camino with the bike you want, a bed for every night, a lower price, and free cancellation until 30 days before you leave. All that remains is to ride.

Book your bike with BICIGRINO2027, or WhatsApp us on +34 627 92 82 13 if you would like help planning.

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"FAQPage","mainEntity":[{"@type":"Question","name":"Is 2027 a Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Yes. 2027 is a Holy Year because 25 July, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday.
