It was a matter of desire and finding the right people. And in our case it occurred. All of us knew that, each one on their own had the same dream: a hotel where there were no guests, not customers. A hotel in which one would feel at home.

And, indeed, it happened. Two paths crossed, one which kept the family tradition in hotel bussiness and the one of knowing what was to tip in the care of others. Both stories converged into one: the desire to extend hospitality and dedication to a business, a hotel with character.

That is the idea, that when you return to Doñas del Portazgo you have the same feeling as when you return to that house, the one that you will never forget the smell, to the home where you grew up or where you spent your summers. That is Las Doñas del Portazgo.

After a year in which we relentlessly seek the space to give shape to this dream, we found it and we set off. Las Doñas del Portazgo is waiting for you to come and enjoy. To make you feel like home.

If you want a higher category accommodation we can also offer you our inn Las Doñas del Portazgo, a dollhouse in a building dated from the XVIIIth century in the historic center of Villafranca del Bierzo, completely renovated and equipped with the latest amenities and technologies. It is worth stopping in this village as it is one of the last great towns full of history and monuments before we enter in rural Galicia.

The tradition of the Door of Forgiveness in the Romanesque church of Santiago dates back to 1122, when Pope Callistus III granted the temple the privilege of giving the Jubilee pilgrims who, for health reasons, could not reach Santiago de Compostela.

Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the door was bricked due to pests and to protect the temple from the attacks, until 1948 when reverting to the custom to mark the celebration of the Jacobean Year.

Thus, each year that July the 25th matches on Sunday, the pilgrims who have traveled at least 150 km of the pilgrimage route and that are unable to continue the journey to the tomb of the apostle can get the Jubilee in the locality.

This is the only temple in Camino de Santiago, besides the Cathedral of Santiago, with this prebend in Jacobean Holy Year.
